Obituaries are great sources of information for the researcher.
Printed in local newspapers and often the bulletins and newsletters
of churches and organizations, these often contain a brief biography
of the deceased as well as a list of surviving family members and
their city of residence. Earlier ones are quite eloquent in
their eulogy of the departed.Houston County's earliest newspaper
was the Houston Home Journal and it is still published today and is
the legal organ of the county. Copies have been microfilmed
and are available at the Perry & Warner Robins Libraries as well as
the Washington Memorial Library in Macon, Georgia Archives and the
University of Georgia through their
Georgia
Newspaper Project.
Another excellent source is Cemeteries and Obituaries of Houston County, Ga, by
Addie Howell. This can be found in many local libraries.
Obituaries contributed to the Houston County GAGenWeb Project
can be found in the
Houston
Co. GAGenWeb Archives and on the
Houston County Message Boards.
Family Pages
on this site sometime include copies or transcriptions of family
records.
