War for Southern Independence

Most often called by the misnomer, the Civil War, this was a war which pitted brother against brother, neighbor against neighbor..  For both sides of the conflict it was a tragedy of enormous proportion. However for the South it would take generations for the region to regain its post war economic status. Even today there are areas of the South still in recovery. These segment pages will provide histories, documents and personal stories for this tragic period as relates to the history of Houston County..
