Joseph S. VINSON Joseph S. VINSON,
a resident of Houston County and my great-great grandfather, entered
the Confederacy on 27 May 1861 as a Private; he was 17 years
old. He was enlisted with Company C, 6th Regiment GA Infantry under
Col. Colquitt. Joseph was wounded on 31 May 1862 at the Battle
of Seven Pines in Virginia when an ammo ball passed through his
left thigh and then struck the bone in his right thigh. He was transferred
to Company G, 62nd GA Calvary on 1 Jun 1864 and that unit's name
was changed to Company G, 8th GA Calvary on 11 Jul 1864. Joseph
is on a roll dated 20 Apr 1865 of officers and men paroled. He was honorably
discharged on 26 Apr 1865. |
