(their oldest son) and Ann DALY ADKINS who were living in Houston Co, during the period 1840 to 1860. John and Elizabeth lived on property in District#10 (lots #27 and/or 38). John W. and Ann and family were listed in the 1860 census living on a large plantation which appeared to be owned by the EVESETTO (?) family. I am researching the family of Joseph CUTTS, a Revolutionary War patriot, who died in Houston Co., GA. His will is probated 9 SEP 1833 in Houston Co., GA. It lists his wife, Mary and the following children: Elisha (Elijah), Mary Ratliff, Nancy Hilyard, Elizabeth Carrell, Sarah Smith, Phoebe Watson William P. Cutts. There is also a Jermiah CUTTS listed as an excutor of this will.

Am seeking info on a John DESHAZER (as listed on microfiche) who married a Mahala WILLOUGHBY in Houston Co., GA on 1 JUL1833. Mahala remarried in Bibb Co., GA in Aug. of 1834 and their only child (?) Aaron was raised by his uncle, Solomon. Would love to know what happened to John.

DUKE Dave Duke

My grandfather, David Crawford DUKE, was born in Houston County in 1872. He married my grandmother, Lavicey Clementine DUKE, (yes, they both had the same surname before marriage) about 1891-2 and they produced 7 children: Malvin, Benny Stewart, Gladys, Ethel, Dewey, Cecil and Carroll. Dewey subsequently became my father. David C. DUKE owned 405 acres of land in Houston County in District 8, lot 127. It was sold after his death to James Jones in two parcels. One parcel of 202 1/2 acres was sold by Carol, Dewey, and Tiney on apr19, 1923 and it was recorded in book 30 pg 229. One parcel of 202 1/2 acres was sold by Melvin and Steward on Dec. 8, 1928 and is recorded in book 31, pg 537. The census lists the location of their property as being in "Military Captain's District #528 Ninth".

I would like to find out the exact location of the property so that I can research records which may give me a clue where my grandfather came from. So far I have not been able to trace that lineage beyond him.

I am researching a Henry C. HARRIS (1841-1894) who married Zetella MARSHALL, I recently found Henry on the census with his parents William (1805-1874) and Harriett HARRIS (1807-1889). Can anyone help me find the parents of Wm HARRIS and the surname of Harriett? William received a land grant in Oglethorpe Co., Ga in 1821 and that is all I know about this man.

JONES J. William Jones

Researching my gg-Grandfather, William JONES, b. in Houston Co., Ga. abt 1832. I believe he moved to Russell Co., Al. later and then to Eclectic, Montgomery Co., Al. His first wife was Mary ??. I'm not sure of his second wife. He served in the CSA in the 34th Reg. of the Alabama Volunteers. Lost his leg in the Battle of Stones River, (Murphreesboro, Tn.) and was discharged on the 30th of April 1863. After the war he removed to the Cahaba Valley in St. Clair Co., Al. where he is buried among family in the Moody Church cemetery.

Henry's compilation: Pg. 46 "Arthur LIPSEY appointed uardian of the person and property of Thomas L. SMITH, Daniel W. SMITH, Sarah Ann Euridice SMITH, John Gardner SMITH, and Joseph Andrew SMITH, upon his giving bond for $5000."

Mary NEWELL is on the 1870 GA census for Houston Co. Would like to find out if she is the mothe rof my Great Grandfather Peter NEWELL, whose father is supposed to have been killed in the Civil War. Also, on Peter's death certificate, his mother's maiden name is listed as WRIGHTCOCK in unclear handwriting.

I am researching the family of James PARKER and his wife Rebecca. According to census records they were both born in NC. James is listed in records of Joseph CUTTS'will. It is either him or his son James (Jr.) that was guardian of the children of Elijah / Elisha CUTTS. Elijah CUTTS married his daughter, Rebecca PARKER before 1830. In 1830, Elijah and Rebecca are found in Lowndes Co., GA and by 1840, they are in Sumter Co., GA along with James PARKER (Jr.) and other PARKER family members.

Am searching for info on Isiah PRITCHETT and Dorothy (Dolly) BROWN, m. 6 Nov 1836, Houston co., GA.. Family located in 1840 Houston co. census; in 1850 the family had moved to Meriwether co., GA, living in the household of David BROWN; by 1860 Dorothy is head of household and the family is living in Macon, Bibb co., GA. Children include: Frances (f), John, Mary, William, Isam Taylor. Isam Taylor PRITCHETT ended up in Heard co., GA in time to enlist and fight in the Civil War. I have info on Isam Taylor PRITCHETT, but know nothing else about his parents or siblings.

Seeking information on the parents of Enoch ROSS Sr. Enoch ROSS's date of birth is unknown. The only name on Enoch's death record was his father Stanford ROSS. Enoch died 12/28/1932 in Perry Houston co, GA. buried in the SWIFT cemetery. Married Nancy Swift dau. of Walton / Walter and Harriett SWIFT. They had seven or eight children: Enoch Jr., Dora Ross Baldwin, Florene Ross Neal Henderson, Tommie (TUBBY) Ross, Florence Ross King, Hattie, Mamie and Rosa Lee Ross Lane. If anyone has information on this family I would greatly apprecaite hearing from you. Where is this cemetery located? Florene Neal Henderson was the last one to pass away at the ripe old age of 103 according to my mother. Her address at the time of her death was in Perry, GA.

I am searching for any information on the SHEPPARD family of Houston County. Henry SHEPPARD was born in Pitt County, N. C. and married Elizabeth (HADDOCK)?. Henry died in Houston County in 1829. He did not leave a will so Guardians were chosen for the children, Robert (m. Sarah SUTTON), Henry (m. Mary Ann), Elizabeth (m. Drury TAYLOR), Mary (m. Jonathan GOYNE), and Furney (m. Sarah R. SMITH) , who were minors. He also had sons John and William. Ratliff ECHOLS, James KILLEN. and Thomas MCWILLIAMS were named as Guardians. Henry's widow, Elizabeth, married John JOINER. The above children were heirs to William HADDOCK of Hartford, Pulaski County, Ga. and William HADDOCK of Pitt County, N. C. I would appreciate any information on the above families and will gladly exchange my information.

SIMMONS / SUTPHIN Kyle Harrison

My gg-grandfather John Wesley Sutphin was a Confederate solider from Virginia. In 1864 he was hospitalized in Macon and later captured by Union troops there. After the war, he settled in Houston Co. (Perry P.O.) and married(?) a lady named Mary Ann SIMMONSs, who was supposedly from the surrounding area. Her 1915 death certificate stated that her father was "Alex Simmons" and that she was born in Georgia. They moved to Virginia around 1877 and we know very little about her family.

I would like to contact with any persons knowing about or researching the SIMMONSs family in this area.

I am looking for any information on my grandfather Dreyfus Cortez SMITH born November 21, 1898 in Byron, Georgia. He died February 28, 1970 in Houston County, Georgia and is buried in Perry. His father was Alexander Franklin Smith b. June 3, 1858, mother was Nancy Eugenia Rushing and his grandfather was Elijah Morris Smith. Siblings include: Elijah Morris Smith II, Clara Myrtle Smith, Grady Alexander Smith, Lorena Smith, Donald Hill Smith, and James Rushing Smith. All born between 1886 and 1898. Can anyone offer any information on this family?

I am looking for information on any record of the SOLOMON family. Now the family I am looking for is the family of Lazarus SOLOMON and wife Elizabeth BEDGOOD. I am interested to see if any of their children might be listed in Houston County records. Their daughter Delilah first married a John LAND, but I am not sure where. Henry SOLOMON maybe listed in Houston County Records. William SOLOMON who marsried Susan SMITH may alsobe listed in this county's records. Other children are Mary BRANTLEY, John SOLOMON, D'arcy SOLOMON WALL, James SOLOMON, Peter SOLOMON, Hardy SOLOMON, Carah / Cary SOLOMON, Lewis SOLOMON. These would be listed records dating between 1815-1870.
